ALL ABOUT ME, WHICH FEELS A LITTLE SELF-INDULGENT

about me

HELLO

Hello

So I’m Phil, in my early forties, well, (im not putting my exact age as I will have to update this page every year!). I’m from Treorchy in the Rhondda, South Wales, where I live with my family, my wife, two children and a hairy, barking postman hater called Barney. I married in 2014, so I know the stress of making everything perfect for the big day. I use a lot of this experience to craft how I do things as a wedding photographer.

As a child, I had an eye for detail and enjoyed anything related to design and creativity. I studied Product Design at Nottingham Trent University, graduating in 2004, before spending ten years as a product designer. I spent most of those years at Olympus (yes, the camera company), designing minimally invasive surgery products, which are a posh name for “keyhole surgery” products. This is where I got to travel and work at their headquarters in Japan.
After photographing my first wedding in 2011, I grew my photography business before becoming a full-time photographer in 2017.

I love sports and basketball in particular. I have skied and snowboarded from an early age and enjoy mountain biking, even if my then-wife-to-be threatened to cancel our wedding if I had a big accident before it, as I’d had a few bumps leading up to the big day. As a result of that threat, my cycling adventures are few and far between these days (cue the violin), although I don’t seem to have as much spare time since kids came onto the scene anyway. Funny that.

STUDIO

How I Started and The Loft Studio

I have been developing my photography skills for quite some time. I’ve been fortunate to make this my new career. I started taking photos of modified cars and track days in my younger years. This led me to my first wedding. A friend wanted some photos. I’m sure this is how all wedding photographers start!) of his wedding. A simple registry office ceremony with some photos in a local park. And the rest, as they say, is history. I still photograph cars and have a second company based in my studio where I shoot commercial work for many companies.

kind words

If you’re deliberating about whether to have Phil as your photographer, stop deliberating and book him.”

Just let our work do the talking ...

I’ve had the pleasure of working with some of the greatest and have been recognised by some fantastic organisations. While I’m not a huge fan of awards, it goes a long way when my couples take time out to vote for me, which I would never ask them to do!
