Historic Charm with a Relaxed, Modern Feel
The Old House 1147 is widely believed to be the oldest pub in Wales, with centuries of history held within its walls. Set in the village of Llangynwyd, it pairs this deep historic significance with a beautifully considered modern restoration, creating a venue that feels both authentic and refined.
The extensive restoration has preserved its original character while transforming it into a stylish and welcoming space for weddings and events. Its elevated position above the Llynfi Valley also offers far-reaching views of the countryside, giving the venue a rare sense of space and atmosphere not often found in a building of this age. It is especially well-suited to couples seeking a more relaxed, intimate wedding in a setting that feels meaningful, full of character, and entirely unforced.
About The Old House 1147
Built around a historic structure, The Old House 1147 combines exposed stone, timber beams and original architectural features with thoughtful restoration, preserving its character while making it beautifully suited to modern celebrations.
Inside, the venue feels warm and inviting, with cosy spaces that work equally well for ceremonies and receptions. Outside, the terrace overlooks the Welsh countryside, creating a stunning setting for drinks receptions and golden-hour moments.
The venue is fully licensed for civil ceremonies, and its layout allows the day to flow naturally from one space to the next. This gives the wedding day a relaxed, easy rhythm that works well for both intimate gatherings and slightly larger celebrations.
As a trusted and approved supplier at The Old House 1147, I regularly photograph weddings here and work with the venue on food photography, room styling, and broader commercial imagery. That familiarity helps couples make the very most of every part of the space.

Why I Love The Old House 1147 Wedding Photography
This venue feels effortless to photograph. Everything is close together, the light works beautifully both indoors and out, and the day has a natural rhythm that allows real moments to unfold without interruption.
Inside, rich textures, soft natural light, and historic character create the perfect setting for storytelling and atmospheric images. Outside, the open countryside provides clean, natural backdrops for portraits and candid moments.
What stands out most is how relaxed it feels. Couples aren’t rushed from one location to another, and guests stay together throughout the day, allowing me to focus on documenting genuine interactions as they happen.
I don’t even know where to start with this review. Words simply do not do him justice! Me and my wife instantly knew we wanted Phil as our photographer just by looking on his page and from the moment we sat down and met with him we knew we were in safe hands. The photographer you choose on the day of your wedding is a BIG decision. Phil didn’t just capture our day exactly how we wanted it but he also guided us through the whole day, making sure our day was stress free and full of laughter. He interacted so well with the staff at the venue and all the suppliers we booked as well as our guests. They’ve all commented on how well he moved around the room unnoticed but capturing every moment perfectly.
Having Phil as part of our day definitely allowed us to relax and enjoy the whole experience without having to worry about a thing. We cannot thank him enough for being a part of our day and giving us the most beautiful memories that will last a life time. We are so excited to see the rest of the photos and start planning our album.
Thank you again Phil you have been amazing to work with!

Best Time of Year for The Old House 1147 Wedding Photography
The Old House 1147 is a venue that photographs beautifully year-round, but each season brings its own distinct look and atmosphere.
Spring (April–June) is ideal for fresh, bright images. The surrounding countryside begins to come to life, and the softer light works beautifully with the venue’s stonework, outdoor spaces and incredible views.
Summer (July–September) is perfect for making the most of the terrace and scenery. Longer days allow more time for relaxed moments outdoors, while golden-hour light across the hills creates stunning, natural portraits.
Autumn (October–November) brings warmth and depth. The landscape takes on richer tones, and the cosy interior spaces really come into their own, giving the photos a more intimate feel.
Winter (December–March) is all about atmosphere. The indoor spaces feel warm and inviting, with soft light and plenty of character, making it ideal for more intimate, storytelling-style photography.
If I had to choose, late spring and early autumn often offer the best balance of light, colour and comfort — but The Old House 1147 works beautifully in any season, depending on the style you’re after.
